My Chemical Romance
Singer Gerard Way formed the band My Chemical Romance in 2001, after theattacks on September 11th of that year. The results of the attack inspired him to create something that would make a difference in the world. The original lineup consisted of Mikey Way (Gerard’s brother) on bass, drummer Matt Pelissier, and guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero. The band began touring prior to the release of their debut album ‘I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love’, which was released through the independent label EyeBall Records in 2002.
My Chemical Romance built up quite a reputation through their dark looks and dramatic performance. In 2004, they released their second album ‘Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge’. This album featured their rock hits “I’m Not Okay” (I Promise), “Helena”, and “Ghost of You”. These songs earned them a devoted following and the album sold more than a million copies in the US. Unfortunately that year, Pelissier left the band. His replacement Bob Bryar stayed until 2010. Released in 2006 was ‘The Black Parade’. The album was a Rock Opera about a dying cancer patient, and was produced by Rob Cavello, who had worked on Green Day’s album ‘American Idiot’. The concert tour for this album was their most theatrical performance. During the opening of every show, Gerard would be wheeled onstage via a hospital gurney, while the other members surrounded him wearing black uniforms.
In 2010, they released the concept album ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’.This album was about a postapocalyptic that functioned as a critique of consumerism. It had a glam rock and upbeat power pop sound, which was different from their previous albums. Unfortunately, this album did not do well for the band, becoming a commercial disappointment. This led to the band quietly breaking up in 2013.
The four original members quietly reunited back in 2017, and even performed a sold out show in Los Angeles in 2019. On May 12, 2022, they released a new single titled ‘Foundations of Decay’ and are currently on tour. No one saw this coming, but we are glad to have them back.
