Green Day Re-release Dookie On Obscure Formats

Green Day are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their groundbreaking album Dookie in the most unconventional way yet. After releasing a deluxe edition and performing the album on tour, the band have teamed up with BRAIN to launch DOOKIE DEMASTERED—a collection of the iconic 1994 album’s songs on formats they were definitely never meant to be heard on.

In true punk fashion, DOOKIE DEMASTERED throws all expectations out the window. Forget high-definition vinyl or remastered CDs—how about listening to Welcome to Paradise on a Game Boy cartridge, or Pulling Teeth on a toothbrush? Yes, you read that right. A toothbrush.

A press release from the band states: “Instead of smoothing out its edges and tweaking its dynamic ranges, this version of Dookie has been meticulously mangled to fit on formats with uncompromisingly low fidelity, from wax cylinders to answering machines to toothbrushes. The listening experience is unparalleled, sacrificing not only sonic quality but also convenience, and occasionally entire verses. It’s Dookie, the way it was never meant to be heard.”

Fans can look forward to:

  • 1. Burnout – Player Piano Roll
  • 2. Having A Blast – Floppy Disk
  • 3. Chump – Teddy Ruxpin
  • 4. Longview – Doorbell
  • 5. Welcome To Paradise – Game Boy Cartridge
  • 6. Pulling Teeth – Toothbrush
  • 7. Basket Case – Big Mouth Billy Bass
  • 8. She – HitClip
  • 9. Sassafras Roots – 8-track
  • 10. When I Come Around – Wax Cylinder
  • 11. Coming Clean – X-Ray Record
  • 12. Emenius Sleepus – Answering Machine
  • 13. In The End – MiniDisc
  • 14. F.O.D. – Fisher Price Record
  • 15. All By Myself – Music Box

For those daring enough to experience Dookie in these obscure formats, there’s an opportunity to enter a raffle to win one of the limited-edition physical versions. The raffle closes on Friday, October 11th at 8am PT. You can enter here.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to jam out to Dookie while brushing your teeth or summon Green Day through your doorbell, now’s your chance. Just remember, sonic quality may be sacrificed—but that’s all part of the fun.

Dookie Demastered: 15 tracks. 15 formats. The way it was never meant to be heard. 30 years later. Now available at https://t.co/MD6KjVSIus pic.twitter.com/1YlPUMyFSY
