Our first Escape Through Music: Panic! At The Disco was back January of 2017. Since then, we’ve had a Part 2 and now, our first Escape Through Music Tattoo Edition! 

I always see so many fans with beautiful tattoos in honor of the band, (Brendon Urie, Dan Pawlovich, Nicole Row, and Mike Naran) and thought it would be really cool to learn the meanings behind a few of them.

Sinners never fails to impress me on the amount of dedication they have for the band. After 13 years of Panic! At The Disco, their fans STILL continue to love and support the band’s music, whether they’ve been a fan for 13 years or just recently.

We took the time to speak to some Panic! At The Disco fans from around the world, and these are their meanings behind their P!ATD inspired tattoos.

Mitzi Astorga | Santiago, Chile – “I got my tattoo because it’s amazing how Panic! At The Disco changed the way I used to see music. At the same time,  it healed me and encouraged me to keep going throughout the anxiety, depression, and fear that I was passing through. I made the decision to get this tattoo [top left] because Pretty. Odd. was the first album that I listened to and it became something really special for me.

“I have more tattoos for different reasons and meanings, and every time I got one it is like a healing ritual for me. The second one [right side] is about Panic! and about my son (yes, I am a mother.) My son is a transgender boy and since the day we knew about it, and since the day he was born, reinventing love was our mission in life. The clock marks the time my son was born. The last one [bottom left] is about the Death Of A Bachelor Tour and I did it wishing to be there in any show of that tour, because I’ve never had the chance to be at a Panic! show. Getting this tattoo made me feel closer to them. Also, I was passing through some adversities and when I made some decisions to break through, all those problems became like a celebration sign that mean that I’ll be fine no matter what. That’s the meaning behind  hand with a whiskey on the rocks.”

Christina | 30 | Germany – “I think I first listened to P!ATD in 2011 when I started college. My favorite song was “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” back then. Somehow I totally lost interest in Panic!, maybe cause I wasn’t that into bands and music at the time, I can’t remember. But I regret it, believe me.”

“In early 2018 I went to a Fall Out Boy gig. They were playing the video to “Say Amen (Saturday Night)” during the break and I was hooked. I started listening to Panic! again and lost myself in Brendon’s music. I got to know Brendon better through his old vines, videos, and etc., I fell in love with his personality. I fell in love with his dedication to music, to his fans, with just everything. He is an exceptional talent and the nicest person ever. Every time I listen to P!ATD I’m happy. Their music just positively influenced me in the last year. My tattoo is simply a dedication to Panic! and Brendon’s greatness. It always reminds me of times I’ve been happy while listening to them. The P! was a spontaneous tattoo, I guess I wanted it cause Brendon has it as well.”

Grant Evans | Vancouver, Canada – “Burn your biographies, rewrite your history.” This line is from “High Hopes.” For a very long time I’ve struggled with finding myself. I never knew who I was supposed to be or how I was supposed to act. I always did everything for everyone else and never for myself. Then I found Panic! And Brendon and I realized that I, to quote Brendon “don’t owe anyone sh*t.” I feel like I’m finally free to be my own person thanks to him and his music.”

“I got the Panic! P tattoo on a really hard day, it was the day my mom died. She passed when I was 5 and every year it feels like it gets harder. I got home that day and felt the need to be close to someone important to me, so I looked at pictures of Brendon and I went out to the tattoo place down the road from my apartment and got the same P he has tattooed on the same arm he has it on.”

“It made me feel close to the man that saved my life and changed everything. It still does. Whenever I’m having a bad day I look down at that tattoo and realize, he’s out there, looking at the same tattoo, changing lives for the better and if he can make such an amazing and good impact on our sometimes sh*tty world, then I’ll be okay.”

Gabe | Texas – “The reason I got this tattoo was really for two reasons. One, it’s a way of me saying thank you to Panic!. If it wasn’t for them, I truly think I wouldn’t have made this far. Never thought I would make it to my senior year of high school to be completely honest. They have helped me through the worst or the worst when I thought I was completely alone.”

“And the second reason is because I still have moments when I feel like hurting myself. When I look down at my arm I see a person who I know cares about me and many others. Even though they have not met all of their fans, we still have the feeling that they love us. Also when I look at it, it helps me understand that things won’t be easy, but to always push through it because I (and many others) have a life worth living.”

Kaitlin Havens | Mississippi  – “I got this tattoo because I’ve always struggled throughout life. It’s my little reminder that I can’t change what goes on around me, but I can make a home out of the toughest situations.”
Sydney | Vancouver, Canada – “I got a portrait of Brendon tattooed on June 6th 2018. The date is significant because it’s exactly ten years after I saw Panic! live for the first time when I was 14. There’s always going to be a special place in my heart for Brendon Urie, and now I can proudly show off this wonderful person, who has filled my heart consistently for over half my life. Originally he was supposed to go on my sternum, as close to my heart as possible. But I’m too small,  so we put him on my leg instead.”
Emma | Arizona – “After being a fan of Panic! At The Disco and looking up to Brendon Urie for years, I knew I wanted a tattoo related to them. I met some of my closest friends and had some of the best moments of my life at Panic! shows. Looking up to someone who has anxiety like I do helps me stay happy and inspired, and their music has always meant a lot to me. My tattoo makes me so happy every time I look at it I don’t have a single regret.”
Tabata | Brazil – “The exclamation point on my shoulder I did after meeting Brendon in 2009. It was so incredible to meet him that I decide to do it to celebrate. The triangle I did last month! I love Panic! so much that I needed a second tattoo. Brendon always inspire me, help me moving forward no matter what and he is so important in my life so this tattoo always reminds me that.”
Brandie | Salt Lake City, Utah – “I got these tattoos because I have been a huge fan since the beginning and there was a particular moment at a show in Salt Lake City a couple years ago,  when Brendon played “This Is Gospel” on the piano that I wanted captured forever.”

“This tattoo represents “The Calendar,” “Golden Days,” This Is Gospel,” “High Hopes, and “Say Amen (Saturday Night.” The second tattoo was for their song called “Kaleidoscope Eyes.” “I’m just a white blood cell fighting like hell for you.” I’m a vet tech, so I got a ninja neutrophil which is a white blood cell fighting like hell.”

Tori | Massachusetts – “I got into Panic! when I was 12 years old and went to sleep away camp for the first time. A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out was one of the only albums on my iPod and I remember listening to it and crying when I got homesick. Ever since then, their music has helped me through all the tough times in my life. 13 years later, I’m still a massive fan of their music and their message!”

“I’m definitely planning on getting more of their lyrics as tattoos but I feel like the lyric from “I Constantly Thank God For Esteban” was a good way to express the connection I feel to this band. Their music keeps me going when I feel down. I like being able to look down at my tattoo and remind myself that you never really know what’s going to happen, but what ever it is it’ll be a good show!”

Emily Showalter | 23 | Pennsylvania – “The reason I got this tattoo is because ever since I was 10 years old, I have looked up to Brendon. His music has gotten me through some hard times in my life and I couldn’t be more grateful for this band and what he does for all of his fans.”
Cassidy Fernandez | Florida – “”Things have changed for me, and that’s okay.” The world Panic! created with Pretty. Odd. is one that I want to live in. Change has always been something I feared, and that line has always grounded me. It’s kind of my anthem now. It’s shrugging your shoulders with a smile and going with the flow. “Things are shaping up to be pretty odd.””
Desi | 22 | Sydney, Australia – “I’m not really good with words, which is probably why I’m so drawn to Panic!’s music. Their lyrics perfect describe what I’m going through and how I feel. So I got this tattoo as a reminder to DO YOU. Don’t let others hold you back from being who you want to be, or doing what you want to do.”

“As long as it makes you happy and you’re not hurting anyone, then go for it. Never be afraid to put yourself first, you never know where you can end up. This tattoo also means a whole lot more to me because Brendon got to see it in person! It definitely won’t be my last Panic! related tattoo!”

Vivian | Illinois – “I’ve been a fan of Panic since the start but didn’t develop to “die hard” status until a couple years ago. I was 34 and had decided I needed to stop worrying about money (or rather lack there of), stop working 2-3 jobs at once and really start living my life.”

“I flew to California to visit my best friend and we road tripped to Vegas. We had an adventurous few days which ended with us attending our first P!ATD concert. The minute the show let out, I wanted to get a tattoo of the band logo as a reminder of our trip. We always joked that we should start collecting tattoos as souvenirs instead of shot glasses from every place we go. Unfortunately, I wasn’t willing to pay $300 shop minimum for something the size of a quarter.”

​”Time passed and the want for this tattoo never went away. Flash forward to 2 years and 3 concerts later, I finally got it. Every time I look at this tattoo, I think about all the shows I’ve been to, the new friends I’ve made along the way and how that trip was the start of a big turning point in my life.”

Andrew Germain | Michigan – “The tattoo on my forearm is a quote from the song “Golden Days”! It says “Time can never break your heart but it’ll take the pain away.” I got this for my aunt that passed away this year. Inside of the pocket watch the time says 10:07. The time is for her birthday which was October 7th. The tattoo on my upper arm is of course Brendon’s face, and I got that for all the times Brendon’s/Panic!’s music has gotten me through tough times in my life!”
Samm | New York – “I got this tattoo because I’ve had major struggles with depression, anxiety, and self-harm. When I started trying to manage it, music was always my escape. I’ve been a fan of Panic! since they first came out in 2005, and their music has always been a major influence in my life. When I’m having a bad moment or a bad day, I always say this quote over and over in my head until I feel better. It’s something that reminds me that it’s a bad day, not a bad life!”
