Franz Ferdinand have just released its fifth studio album ‘Always Ascending’, over 4 years since their last album, ‘Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Actions’. It’s also the band’s first release since the departure of guitarist Nick McCarthy. Filling the void are two new members, Dino Bardot and Julian Corrie; and it has breathed new life into this all time indie rock band.

‘Always Ascending’ is exactly what Franz Ferdinand seems to be doing with the new sound put out by this album. Leading less on guitar and more on electronic elements with songs such as ‘Lois Lane’ and ‘Glimpse of Love’, this is a style that I truly admire. With catchy lyrics on almost all the tracks, it’s an album that I will have on repeat for a long time. If there was any low point in the album, it may be with the 2 ballads on the LP that kind of feel out of place with the infectious catchy vibe of the other 8 tracks.

I personally purchased my copy on Vinyl, and I do not regret it, with amazing sound quality that can only be created by a record and a record player. No matter how you listen to the album, ‘Always Ascending’ is a welcome with a little twist from Franz Ferdinand.
