Billie Joe Armstrong, the iconic frontman of Green Day, has released a cover of Jesse Malin’s Black Haired Girl for the tribute and benefit album Silver Patron Saints: The Songs Of Jesse Malin. This album, set for release on September 20th, features a star-studded lineup including Bruce Springsteen, Tom Morello, Frank Turner, Rancid, and many more.

The project aims to raise funds for Jesse Malin’s Sweet Relief artist fund, established following a rare spinal stroke Jesse suffered last year. This fund provides financial support to musicians in need, a cause that has rallied numerous artists to contribute their talents.

“Jesse is a dear friend to me,” Billie Joe shared. “I love his songwriting. He is all heart, and his passion is endless. We send each other YouTube videos – mostly old Ramones clips and New York Dolls. Every time I’m in New York he goes out of his way to make me, my friends, and my family feel at home. He’s always down for a laugh or a shoulder to cry on. Jesse, we love you and we’d do anything for you.”

Jesse Malin expressed his admiration for Armstrong’s rendition, saying, “When I heard Billie Joe was doing ‘Black Haired Girl,’ I was so blown away. He took it to another level, a lot of attitude, a lot of power, a lot of style, like everything that he does.”

The release of Silver Patron Saints is highly anticipated, promising a blend of heartfelt performances and a strong sense of community support within the music industry. Fans of both Armstrong and Malin can look forward to a collection that not only celebrates Malin’s songwriting but also contributes to a meaningful cause.
