The highly-anticipated Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, a collaboration between Universal and Blumhouse, has stormed the box office. In its opening weekend, it terrorized theaters, amassing a massive $78 million domestically and an astonishing $130.5 million worldwide.

What’s truly remarkable is that the film was also released on Peacock simultaneously, a streaming service with a low-cost subscription starting at just $5.99 per month. Despite this, audiences swarmed theaters, shattering the myth that day-and-date releases hurt box office performance.

This global opening marks Blumhouse‘s best ever. The film’s production budget was a mere $20 million, ensuring hefty profits for Blumhouse and Universal.

Adding to its list of records, the $78 million domestic debut became the biggest Halloween weekend opening ever, solidifying Five Nights at Freddy’s as a blockbuster.

Directed by Emma Tammi (“The Wind,” “Blood Moon”) and written by Scott Cawthon, Emma Tammi, and Seth Cuddeback, the film features terrifying animatronics crafted by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
