Bilmuri have landed on Dutch soil once again, this time for their biggest headline show to date. They brought along eclectic band Vianova from Berlin. Both of these bands know how to make heads turn with their own unique sound, mixing heavy music with different genres not typically matched together.
With the release of their debut album, Hit It!, last year, the band made waves in the metal scene, receiving one glowing review after another. The crowd in the Melkweg this past Tuesday seemed to completely agree, cheering and moshing throughout the set. The singer said the band only arrived in Amsterdam from a tour in the US a few hours before, but we wouldn’t have known from their performance. They gave it their all, and we hope to see them again sooner rather than later.
Now for the main attraction: Bilmuri! The American band has been working hard to get their name out here in Europe over the last few years, touring with both Sleep Token and Bad Omens, as well as embarking on their own headline tour and festival appearances. All of their efforts have definitely been paying off as the MAX of the Melkweg was almost completely filled with fans “cranking their hogs” and singing along. Bilmuri officially consists of only Johnny Franck, formerly of Attack Attack!, but the live band he surrounds himself with is just as talented. For this particular tour, he brought along Joe Compton playing pedal steel among other instruments, which really made a huge difference to the band’s sound compared to their previous headliner in Utrecht. Gabi Rose was once again an absolute delight to listen to, both whilst singing as well as playing saxophone and flute. In approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes Bilmuri raced through over twenty songs, most of them from their two most recent albums, ending on a high note with BETTER HELL (Thicc boi). If you’re ever in need of a metal-adjacent party filled with energy, Bilmuri is the band you want to see!
