Last night at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, Nothing But Thieves proved once again why they are considered one of the best live acts around right now. Having toured extensively across the globe, the British group is no stranger to large venues and fervent crowds, and this time was no exception. However, the Netherlands holds a unique place in Nothing But Thieves‘ journey, being among the first to embrace their music and, of course, forever linked through the band’s anthemic song Amsterdam. Therefore, Amsterdam was given two concerts in the city’s biggest venue, both completely sold out.
From the get-go, the Ziggo Dome was charged with anticipation, enhanced by the clever introduction of Dead Club Radio, a fictional radio station that set the thematic tone of the evening. This special touch, mixing ads and classic songs, easily connected the audience and the band, leading to an exciting moment when the band started their performance with Welcome to the DCC, the lead track from their new album, Dead Club City.
The setlist was made up of a balanced mix of new and old songs, including an instrumental medley consisting of Ce N’est Rien / Gods / Number 13. Despite the newer, more electronic and abstract sound of Dead Club City, Nothing But Thieves‘ live performance lost none of its rock edge.
The band’s loyal fanbase in Amsterdam, evident in the packed venue, enthusiastically embraced both the new tracks and the classics. The show’s energy rarely dipped, except for a solo performance by frontman Conor Mason of self-titled’s Lover, Please Stay.
Despite the crowd singing along loudly throughout the concert, it reached a peak during Amsterdam, where you could barely hear Mason’s voice. The song was the second in the encore, which consisted of three songs: the band’s latest single, Oh No :: He Said What?, Amsterdam, and Overcome, making the encore the most energetic part of the concert.
