Austin Carlile of Of Mice & Men has been open with his journey of having Marfan Syndrome.

Today he took to social media to share what he never thought he’d be writing; an announcement of his departure as vocalist for Of Mice & Men.

In the letter he ‘wanted to leave in the mess that is 2016’, he described his joy of touring, of seeing this band that he started grow.

He also described how his spinal tears were at odds with the screaming that was the signature sound of Of Mice & Men. And despite how he was determined to push through, it continued to worsen and caused additional pain.

He went on to say that the band will continue on as a foursome, with him continuing to write and play music, just not for Of Mice & Men. It’s clear that Austin’s spirituality is what he will lean into, as he moves into a new phase of his life.

We wish him all the very best.
