My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has officially confirmed that the group will spend 2027 focusing entirely on recording a brand-new studio album, meaning fans shouldn’t expect any live performances until 2028.
Speaking directly to the crowd during the band’s fourth sold-out show at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, Way addressed months of fan speculation surrounding the band’s next era. He made it clear that after concluding their current world tour obligations, the band’s sole priority will be stepping back into the studio to craft their fifth full-length record.
Addressing the crowd on stage, Gerard Way stated:
“Next year, we want to go make a record, so we’re probably not doing any shows, and there’s no secret code to that… But seriously, we want to go do that, and then hopefully we’ll see you guys in 2028.”
The announcement marks the clearest statement yet regarding the long-awaited follow-up to 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Following their 2019 reunion and the release of their standalone 2022 single The Foundations of Decay, the prospective album will mark the band’s first complete body of new material in over 15 years.
