LIVE REVIEW: ARCHERS Bring The Heat To Haarlem
ARCHERS have been quickly growing in popularity over the past year, so it was only a matter of time before they made their way to Europe. Their debut tour concluded with a bang at the Patronaat in Haarlem this past weekend. While ticket sales may have been somewhat disappointing, as the show was downgraded to Stage 3, both the bands and the attendees made sure to fill the smaller room to the brim with energy!
The night started with Dutch post-hardcore band Between Cities, who fit right in with the crowd of Archers fans. From the opening notes of “Wide Awake”, the band had the room headbanging and jumping. When they started their cover of the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris”, everyone was singing along. Their set may have been short, but they certainly left an impression.
ARCHERS set the bar high, kicking off their set with fan favorite “Made for Love”, instantly shaking everyone awake from the lull between sets. What followed was a dynamic setlist packed with emotional lyrics and enough bounce to keep the energy high. A mosh pit broke out during “Never Enough”, and we even got the deep cut “Blanket Fort” as an encore. The smaller room also made it possible for the crowd to interact more with the band, giving the show a more intimate feel.
Vocalist Pulley was consistent throughout the night, as if he hadn’t been performing almost every night across Europe in recent weeks. ARCHERS recently parted ways with bassist Arankai, who was also largely responsible for the scream vocals. We were curious to see how this would affect the music, as he was quite an important part of their sound. Drew Hansen has taken over the role and did a wonderful job in both departments. While different from his predecessor, he definitely brought the energy and skills. The same can be said for drummer Daniel, who filled in for the band’s regular drummer.
All in all, it was a great night, and we’re sure this won’t be the last time we see ARCHERS in Europe!
