WARNING: This article contains spoilers for multiple seasons of Supernatural.

It’s been a lot of years and a lot of seasons of the successful CW show Supernatural, but one thing they all have in common is that they revolve around the two brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, who are saving people by hunting evil spirits and all kinds of dangerous supernatural beings.

However, for the upcoming season 14, there’s something new on the table: the disappearance of one of the brothers. As previously hinted, Dean Winchester will serve as the vessel for the angel Michael, meaning we will see Jensen Ackles on screen, but as an entirely different character.

Now if that sounds weird to you, don’t fret, the showrunners were skeptical about it as well, as one of them, Andrew Dabb, has explained in an interview with TVLine:

”The show’s built upon two pillars, and those two pillars are Sam and Dean […] We’ve taken Sam away for little chunks of time here and there, but never in a huge way. He’s been soulless and things like that, but he’s still kind of present. […]”

“One of the pillars of the show is gone, basically, and that, in some ways, makes things very difficult, because the show is Sam and Dean, and their interplay […] It’s challenging to write episodes without Dean Winchester in them, because he is such a fundamental part of the show. But it’s also exciting [for] Jensen and us [to have] the opportunity to play around with this new character.”

While most things regarding the new season are kept in the dark for now, that is a twist that will certainly mix things up!

Are you excited for season 14 of Supernatural? What do you think is going to happen? Feel free to share your theories with us!

The new season of Supernatural starts October 11 on the CW.
