Netflix Shares They Think Of “Fortnite” As Tougher Competition Than HBO

Streaming giant Netflix has shared in their latest financial report that they think of Fortnite as quite the competition. If stacked against TV network HBO, Netflix shares they consider Fortnite to be tougher competition.

This has to do with the fact that people who have time off, will spend their minutes (most likey) with so-called “consumer screen time”. This means that people who have some time to spend online, they either watch Netflix, another TV network or play a game. You’re competing with everyone who’s considered entertainment in those “consumer screen time” hours.

With this in mind, it kind of makes sense that Netflix sees Fortnite as fierce competition, right? Here’s what Netflix shared:

“We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO. When YouTube went down globally for a few minutes in October, our viewing and signups spiked for that time. There are thousands of competitors in this highly fragmented market vying to entertain consumers and low barriers to entry for those with great experiences. Our growth is based on how good our experience is, compared to all the other screen time experiences from which consumers choose.”

What’s your entertainment of choice when you have some spare time? Do you tend to play a game such as Fortnite, or do you prefer binge-ing one of your favourite shows? Let us know in the comments!
