CONCERT REVIEW: 5 Seconds of Summer Bring Everyone’s a Star To Amsterdam

On Friday night, April 10, 5 Seconds of Summer brought their Everyone’s a Star World Tour to the Ziggo Dome, and what a show it was.

The performance was split into different acts that felt like chapters in a larger story. It started with Act 1: The Peak and ended with Act 7: The Return.

Before the band appeared on stage, a short video played to introduce the first act. They opened with “NOT OK”, instantly setting the tone for the night. When “No. 1 Obsession” and “Teeth” followed, the energy was already sky-high, and the first act flew by.

Between the acts, video interludes helped tie everything together and made the show feel like one complete concept rather than just a setlist of songs. The stage design also fully matched that vision. Drummer Ashton Irwin, for example, performed from inside a car at one point, and the stage extended out into the crowd in a circular shape, allowing the band to perform some songs from the middle of the arena.

The setlist struck a strong balance between older songs and newer material. After Act II, it was time for the “PowerPoint Break,” which included fun local jokes and playful audience interaction. One of the slides even compared the popularity of the band’s older songs to their newer ones. When the older tracks supposedly came out on top, they decided to “give the people what they want” and launched into “She’s Kinda Hot.”

Another standout moment came during Act 4: The Breakup, where each member had the chance to step into the spotlight with an individual solo moment.

And just like on the previous tour, the surprise song segment made a return. Before the show, fans could scan a QR code to vote for which song they wanted to hear. The chosen track was then revealed during Act V: The Rise. When the briefcase was opened to announce the result, the crowd reaction was deafening. The song turned out to be “Girls Talk Boys,” which, according to reports, had not been performed live since 2018.

But the highlights did not stop there. During Act VI: The Beginning, it was time for fan favourites like “Voodoo Doll,” “Jet Black Heart,” and “She Looks So Perfect.”

After that, the arena went dark for a few minutes. The crowd grew restless until a video suddenly started playing, and it became clear that the band were making their way through the audience as the introduction to “Everyone’s a Star!” began. It was a genuinely special moment. For fans at the back of the venue, it meant they unexpectedly got the chance to see the band up close.

The night ended with “Youngblood,” which sent the Ziggo Dome into chaos one last time.

All in all, the show was incredible. So much care had gone into the concept, everything fell perfectly into place, and with the added confetti moments, 5 Seconds of Summer truly made the Ziggo Dome come alive.
