CONCERT REVIEW: Imagine Dragons Deliver Hits-Filled Spectacle At Sold-Out Amsterdam Show

In the summer of 2025, Imagine Dragons embarked on a European tour to promote their latest album, LOOM, which released back in 2024, bringing their music to millions of fans across the continent. The Netherlands was fortunate to be included on their tour, with the band performing a two-hour set at the sold-out Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, the country’s largest stadium.

The day of the concert was warm and sunny, allowing fans to gather outside the venue hours before the doors opened, filled with anticipation for an unforgettable evening. Many waited patiently, eager to secure their spots for a night they would cherish.

Even if you’re not deeply familiar with Imagine Dragons, you’ve likely heard their music on the radio. With hits like Thunder, Radioactive, and Believer, the band has solidified its place as one of the world’s most prominent mainstream acts. Their widespread popularity was evident as they sold out the massive 60,000-seat stadium in record time, performing to a crowd eager to finally witness the band live (again).

The stage production matched the grandeur of a stadium show. Towers equipped with vibrant lighting were strategically placed throughout the arena, while large screens on the stage displayed visuals that complemented the performance. The band enhanced the experience with frequent bursts of confetti, occasional fireworks, and well-timed CO2 cannons, creating a dynamic and engaging atmosphere.

The setlist struck a balance between tracks from LOOM and the band’s extensive catalogue of hits. With all ten of their top Spotify songs surpassing a billion streams, Imagine Dragons’ massive appeal is undeniable. Given their infrequent performances in the Netherlands, the setlist leaned heavily on fan-favourite radio hits, ensuring that most, if not all, attendees heard the songs they came for.

Lead singer Dan Reynolds was the heart of the performance, commanding the stage with boundless energy and charisma. He frequently ventured down the catwalk, engaging directly with fans who had camped out for hours to secure spots in the front rows. Reynolds’ connection with the audience was a highlight, as he paused between songs to share heartfelt stories about the band’s journey and the personal meaning behind tracks

While the concert was enjoyable, it didn’t feel particularly extraordinary. The energy from both the band and the audience seemed slightly subdued at times. This could be due to my own perspective, as I often attend high-energy metal concerts, which set a different benchmark for crowd engagement. Additionally, my last visit to the Johan Cruijff Arena was for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, a production that was exceptionally memorable. That memory likely raised my expectations for what a stadium show can achieve.

Still, Imagine Dragons delivered a performance that undoubtedly satisfied their fans. The band’s charisma and heartfelt explanations of their music’s meaning resonated with the audience. For Dutch fans, the night was a rare treat, as Imagine Dragons’ visits to the Netherlands are few and far between, with the last show being 3 years ago. The concert was a celebration of their music’s universal appeal, bringing together thousands to sing, dance, and reflect under the summer sky. The production was well-executed, and the overall experience was solid. It was a pleasure to witness their show in Amsterdam, and I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it.
