LIVE REVIEW: Bring Me The Horizon Continue Journey To Domination During Epic Lowlands

Bring Me The Horizon are on the festival circuit in Europe again, where they gradually took on bigger stages and time slots in recent years. With the releases from Sempiternal and onwards, the band from Sheffield has expanded their sound and upgraded their live show into a headliner-ready set, and if they continue down this path, they will reach the headliner status sooner rather than later.

For the Dutch fans at Lowlands, Bring Me The Horizon took on the Alpha stage, which is the main stage, for an hour-long set, in preparation for their highly anticipated performance early next year in Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome and if the crowd at Lowlands was any indication, the band should have no issue filling the Ziggo Dome when the time comes. Their setlist consisted of a nice mix from ‘recent’ albums, starting with the 2013 album Sempiternal, all the way to the most recently released single sTrAngeRs, which is rumoured to be featured on the band’s highly anticipated follow-up to Post Human: Survival Horror. This album released in the midst of the pandemic, so songs from this album, as well as the follow-up singles were all being played in The Netherlands for the first time, which were 5 out of the 12 tracks on the setlist this evening. Of course, the other album that was heavily featured tonight was That’s The Spirit, which is home to the popular Drown, Follow You and Throne, as well as the song that translates so well to a live show: Happy Song.

The more recent songs from Bring Me The Horizon such as sTrAngeRs and DiE4u reach a broader audience, but to us, the live performance from the heavier side of BMTH’s discography is what makes the band truly iconic. During songs like Dear Diary, and Shadow Moses, the band goes hard and as a result, so does the audience. It just works. Besides music, BMTH brought along dancers, an epic backdrop and of course a whole lot of audience interaction. Unfortunately what the band did not do was bring Nova Twins on stage to perform the song 1×1, on which they are featured, even though Nova Twins played an hour before BMTH started. That truly would have been the icing on the cake, but oh well.

Check out some shots from the epic performance in the gallery below and let us know if you are seeing Bring Me The Horizon on their current trek through Europe or on any of the tour dates to come!
