Gojira Win First Grammy For Best Metal Performance

French metal band Gojira has won their first-ever Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2nd, 2025. They took home the award for their song Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!), a powerful track featuring opera singer Marina Viotti and composer Victor Le Masne. This song was first performed at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

Gojira faced tough competition from big names like Judas Priest (Crown of Horns), Knocked Loose & Poppy (Suffocate), Metallica (Screaming Suicide), and Spiritbox (Cellar Door).

Accepting the award, Gojira’s frontman Joe Duplantier thanked fans and urged people to support up-and-coming musicians. He said, “We want to dedicate this award to all the bands pushing the boundaries. Support your local artists, support your local bands, because they inspire us to keep going.”

This is a big moment for Gojira, who had been nominated in 2017 and 2021 but hadn’t won until now. Their Grammy win shows how far they’ve come and how they continue to push metal music forward.
